The Product

Quicks is an Augmented Reality project me and my team completed as part of an advanced design initiative by Honeywell. It is an alternative, digital solution to the traditional printed collateral literature for the Honeywell Lyric thermostats, with the possibility later on to be integrated with other Honeywell products.
The Challenge

The project started as a necessity of consolidating a huge amount of information, printed on paper, in one easy to access digital product. One of the discoveries we made, during the in-depth interviews with our target groups was the fact that nobody reads the collateral literature that comes in the box with the devices. Another significant pain point for the Users was storing all the paper User Guides, and later on remembering where was stored.
Our approach

As a result of our Competitor analysis and stakeholder Kick-Off Workshop, it was decided that Augmented Reality is the best avenue for exploration. We started to build our UX strategy around the immediate accessibility to information that AR technology was offering.
Later on we swiftly constructed a prototype and embarked on an iterative design process, rigorously testing and refining our approach.
Building the AR Design Language

Building the Design Language for this product was quite a challenge, because it was the first product where we had no control over the background and yet had to find a way in which the different AR graphic elements on top of the real world image will have sufficient contrast and visibility.
It was completely uncharted usability territory.
The Solution

The final deliverable is a fully functional prototype, able to take the User through all the intricate steps of DIY installation only by pointing a mobile device toward the Lyric packaging or the physical device. The AR sensor will instantly trigger the AR layer on top of it.
⦿ All the user needs to do is follow step by step the Quicks' voice instructions and animation.
⦿ Reduces the cost and complication of providing paper or web information that needs reading, scrolling, navigation and appropriate section selection.
⦿ It is completely sustainable solution 🌱, saves tons of ink and paper and provides the right information instantly at the right time and place.
